Cover letters and resumés can sometimes be a pain in the … I mean can be difficult to write. Therefore, I will explain some things that should stand out in your papers. This will increase the chances of recruiters noticing you more and better.
Personal Branding:
Let’s start with yourself. Who are you? What do you want? What do you want to achieve with your resume or cover letter. Obviously the job, but does that job suit you and will the recruiter notice you among the hundreds of resumes they receive.
To stand out from those who are your enemy, you need to be as specific as possible on paper. By being as specific as possible with your skills and what you want, you can have all kinds of benefits.
One of those is that you are easier for recruiters to find. Recruiters are looking for specific skills that an employee can bring to the table, but what are you looking for? What are your ambitions? Try to be as specific as possible when you write your resume and/or cover letter. They are looking for your expertise, but you are not just looking for salary. Think about what you want to do when you work. Do you want to be a team player or a soloist? Marketing or HR? Use keywords to describe your skills that you want to apply and improve. In your cover letter, tell what you can do, want to do, and how they can benefit from your skills.
Time to sell out:
All right, you have your resume and an idea of how you want to write a cover letter. Let’s start by selling yourself. All you need to do is create a few (social) media accounts and market yourself. On platforms like LinkedIn or our own site ErasmusTalent.nl you can find jobs that match your abilities. In time you will find a job,but we would like to make the job search a little faster (just a little bit).
The way to find a job is as followed. First the passive way, you simply create an account on platforms like LinkedIn. Recruiters use LinkedIn primarily as a tool to find new employees. Recruiters can then stumble upon your page and contact you. This way of searching for a job is possible, but not very effective. Luck plays a big role in this way and it can take a long time to find a job. To increase that luck, you need to have a specific and an outstanding page that recruiters find attractive. Ambitions, Mindsets, Determination, Responsibility, Dedication use examples for these topics. After this, you can proactively look for vacancies yourself.
